Happy to See this Facebook Memories from 4 yrs Ago

I was happy to see the these pics popped in my Facebook memories a week ago.

It showed us the place where we went one day trip by train to Halebidu and Belur.

This trip was close to our heart, beacuse we travelled back to back to 4 different Hoysala architecture temples in Karnataka. And it was the day we were totally spell bound in the beauty of Hoysala architecture.

This is about how I recalled the events and why this trip was so close to my heart.

Facebook Memories – recollecting the events

As I recall, I remember well that how we left home early to catch train, the junction we got down (arasikere), the hot tea in a local shop in the morning, the village muddy smell from the previous day rains.

I also recall the pain I felt seeing the lost state of importance to these 2 temples – one in Arasikere and the 2nd in Javangal.

Compared to both, Arasikere Lord Shiva temple was in better condition.

We were lost for words to explain the state of Javangal temple, the broken and damaged roof was totally heartbreaking.

That explains the reason why no devotees or tourists to these places.

The other two temples we have visited that day, namely – Halebidu and Belur temples were sparkling with crowd.

They were receiving all the care and attention, and they stand proud in a vast area with little damage here and there.

I also recall going to a local eatery before entering the Halebidu temple, ordering the only rice bath variety available with a vada. While our phones were charging, we relaxed and prepared ourselves to visit the mass temple in piping hot sun.

Thanks to facebook memories, I am feeling happy to recollect the events.

7 Good Bike Ride Partner Qualities (A Free Guide to Select a Right Travel Partner)

The very reason I decided to write about the bike ride partner qualities is that many are actively looking for travel partners (strangers?) in the travel forums. I have been seeing people requesting in travel forums such as “looking for bike ride partners to Manali”, “anyone interested to join us for long bike trip to Leh Ladak” etc.,

I don’t know how many of you had successful bike trips partnering with strangers, I have some suggestions that might be of value to you.

Here are 7 (good) qualities to look in a bike ride partner from our numerous bike trip experiences in India.

Bike Ride Partner Qualities – The list From Our Numerous Bike trip Experiences

#1. A Partner Who Shares Common Interest – The one most important Bike ride partner qualities

Be it a 200 kms bike ride in a short bike trip or 500 to 600 kms ride in a day in a long bike trip, you and your partner are going to share long hours on the same bike.

If the other person does not share common interests i.e. for travelling, then say it’s wise to not choose he/she as your bike ride partner.

Though knowing to ride a bike may not be a mandatory qualification, one must be willing to sit on a bike, pillion ride long distances without complaining about the weather or anything.

Trust me, this one quality is more important than anything.

If someone wants to join you just to test the water rather than real interest in bike travelling then its No – No.

#2. Rider Who is Not Willing to Give Up

In our 2nd longest bike trip back in the year 2018, I felt sick as soon as we started the bike. Then as soon as we reached the destination on day – 1, I developed severe fever and chill. Due to that I had to go to the hospital on the same night.

My hubby proposed that we go back to Bangalore if I don’t feel well the next day. I too felt the same. After coming back from hospital my decision to go back became certain.

But the whole night, the thought of giving up on that long bike trip kept disturbing me. Furthermore, I thought about the days and time I spent on planning for this.

Above all we both took off officially from work for this well planned 12 days vacation.

On the next day morning, I told my hubby that we are good to go. At first he didn’t agree. Soon we were on our way to our next destination.

Though I was not as active as I was on the 2017 long bike trip, I felt better after 2 days of medication. Also I knew Rajesh would have also never given up if he was to be in my place.

Not giving up was the best decision we have taken in that long bike trip.

Now we have another feather to our cap.

The person who is willing to not give up is one of the best bike ride partner qualities one can expect.

#3. Someone Who Values Your Trip Plan – Another must have Quality of a bike ride partner

If the partner lost any interest during the middle of the trip, then its going to be an unpleasant experience. Very soon you will find them saying, “I thought you were going to stop at this place…”, “I only joined this trip because I thought………”.

Or they will find a way to delay the time some or the other way. Because they don’t care. Because they lost interest and wants a way out.

Not only you will be frustrated answering your partner’s constant complaints and soon you will find yourselves dragging a dead weight.

#4. Avoid Someone Who Enjoys Blame Game

If there is one thing for sure happens on the road is, expect the unexpected.

Be it delay in plan, not finding good pit stops, trouble finding gas stations, mobile battery runs out etc., one needs to be prepared to face it like an adult.

If the bike ride partner finds it easy to blame everything on the other person, then you find a way to let go of that partner. Trust me, you are well off alone.

And you cannot let go of the partner in the middle of the trip, that’s why I suggest to know the person for sometime atleast.

#5. Who is Ready to Sacrifice Small pleasures

Consider yourself lucky if you could find a bike ride partner ready to do small sacrifices. Such as eating at irregular intervals, compromising on restaurant choices, take a leak near woods without complaining, sleep in uncomfortable beds, pathetic room services, spend the night without cable or internet connections, etc.,

It’s all part of nomad life and if your partner is not willing to do small sacrifices, then say No to the partner.

#6. Share the Burden too

When I say “share the burden”, the most obvious thing that comes to your mind is sharing the budget.

There is more to look for in a bike ride partner qualities.

For example, when one person is an active rider, then the pillion rider takes responsibility for finding pit stops from google maps, confirming room bookings and route navigations, etc.,

Here are some on – road responsibilities:

Checking google maps often to ensure riding on the right route
Finding pit stops while on the go
Take turn to go washrooms to keep an eye on the luggages
Confirm room bookings
Look for gas stations on the map
Fill water bottles at pit stops

Some off- Road responsibilities:

Plan the holiday and budget
Detailed itinerary for each day of the long road trip with clear destinations, nearby restaurants, sightseeing places with phone numbers etc.,
Getting bike service done 2 days before bike trip
Book accomodations at all destinations
Pack toiletries
Pack first aids
Fit clothes in saddle bags
Keep all the expensive stuffs and ready to use essentials, bike ride accessories on the tank bag
Keep all the mobile phones’, power bank’s and SLR camera‘s batteries charged night before the trip
Keep the water bottles filled
Again cross check everything on the day of starting the trip
Check the house safes’ and doors are secured (if you are couples like us).

#7. Who doesn’t go crazy on shopping

Planning for a long bike trip requires careful selection of minimal travel clothes and essentials which fit all in your saddle bags (and tank banks).

Avoid travelling with the partner who doesn’t understand the concept of minimalist packing. Certainly it would save you a lot of frustration.

Buying new stuff in travel destinations means not only putting a dent on your travel budget but also an extra luggage to carry around.

Travel Partner – Go or No Go?

Even if your partner is riding on his/her own bike, the above are some qualities you need to look for in a partner for seamless experience.

We were always on the same bike because we are compatible duo travelers. And we always have a proactive approach to every single ride.

We grew compatible and easy going couple over many may one day – and two day – bike trips.

Above all we were quick to ask sorry and correct our mistakes.

Probably its best to travel in groups led by an experienced bike ride organizer if you couldn’t find a perfect partner.

Bangalore to T Narasipura: Crazy Bike Ride to the Less Known Destinations in Karnataka

We went on one day bike trip from Bangalore to T Narasipura (Tirumakudal Narasipura) in the year 2016. This is one of our crazy bike travel of total 335 kms just in one day, from our home in Bangalore.

How many of you have heard of place called T Narasipura in Karnataka?.

Except for the people from T Narasipura and the surrounding area. And a few who had been there or crossed that place. Right?.

Since it is not a very famous bike trip destination, so I don’t blame you if you have not heard of that place at all.

This is how we went on a one day bike trip from Bangalore to T Narasipura via Srirangapatna and Somanathapura.

It was an unforgettable day driving among the scenic roads.

Bangalore To T Narasipura – Route Map

We are a travel duo – married couple, and this is one of the stories of our bike trips to the places in Karnataka.

We have decided to travel from Bangalore to T Narasipura during the end of year 2016. After we gained confidence from our couple of crazy bike trips to Lepakshi (2 states in one day) and Hassan (adventurous night ride of 500 kms in 2 days).

We started our bike on 10th December 2016, from our home in Bangalore to T Narasipura via Srirangapatna and Somanathapura.

The distance from Bangalore to T Narasipura is 143 kms (varies depends on the place you start).

We traveled a total of 335 Kms in this T Narasipura bike trip starting from Bangalore.

This is the Route Map of Our Bike Trip from Bangalore to T Narasipura.

First we reached Srirangapatna by taking Bangalore to Mysore highways. Did darshan in Lord Sri Ranganathar temple.

Then rode to Somanathapura to visit a very famous Hoysala architecture.

Finally T Narasipura Village. 11 kms ride from Somanathapura.

Visited Yoga Narasimha swamy temple and an ancient cave temple across the shore.

All the 4 stops are explained in detail below.

Stop 1 : Bangalore to Srirangapatna

We started our bike at home around 8am, headed to Srirangapatna in the Bangalore – Mysore highways. We stopped at Malgudi vattika restaurant in Bidadi for breakfast. Spent time clicking pics and relaxing a bit before we continued our journey in the hot sun.

We reached the Srirangapatna Lord Ranganathar temple around 12.30 pm. We spent an hour for darshan.

The lord Ranganathar here is called Adi Ranga, located at the start of Kaveri river is of greater significance in Hindu religion.

The other two significant temples on the kaveri bed are Madya ranga at Shivanasamudra and Anthya Ranga at Trichy.

The adi ranga – Lord Ranganathar temple is always crowded, especially on saturdays. Usually temple closing time is 1 noon, but on Saturday and auspicious days the temple remains open until 2 pm.

Stop 2: Srirangapatna to Somanathapura

Next stop is yet another famous, tourist destination in Somanathapura is Chennakesava temple. Chenna – Kesava, translates to Beautiful Lord Vishnu is the main deity of this ancient temple which is under the archaeological department.

The “Hoysalas” who ruled between 11th and 14th centuries have built this unique – never can be seen anywhere in the world kind of architecture only in Karnataka.

I was surprised to see the resemblance of Hoysala architecture in Ambarnath temple in Mumbai.

They have built large and small temples in Karnataka, dedicating to either Lord Vishnu or Lord Shiva. Of many of the famous Hoysala architecture in Karnataka, we have been to the ones in Belur, Nuggehalli, Halebid and Somanathapura.

All of them are beautiful temples and must be seen in Karnataka.

The Somanthapura temple or Chennakesava temple is one of my all time favourites, and I never miss a chance to atleast to have a peek at this temple whenever we go on a road trip from Bangalore to Mysore, or to Srirangapatna.

Stop 3 : Somanathapura to T Narasipura

Here comes our final destination, T Narasipura. Am sure the readers may not have heard about this less known weekend destination, a less explored place near Mysore.

T Narasipura is a small town adorned with Kaveri river, surrounded by agri fields and gives a serene view for the bike ride. Kumb mela is celebrated grand festival here.

If you are unsure of where to go, I would suggest going on a one day trip from Bangalore to T Narasipura. Or go via T Narasipura, drive in scenic roads to Talakadu or Somanathapura or Mysore.

There isn’t any picnic spot to spend time here, but it’s a meaningful destination if you would like to ride among trees and fields.

It is a good place if you are looking for a one day road trip from Bangalore to Mysore.

From here, you could go to Talakadu – yet another famous tourist destination next to Somanathapura and Srirangapatna. Furthermore, Talakadu is famous for its Kaveri river and the ancient Lord Shiva temples that have been buried under the sand. Read here.

Stop 4: The Destination

On our Bangalore to T Narasipura bike trip, of all the famous temples, I had planned on visiting only 2 temples.

First, we visited the most noteworthy temple. Called Yoga Narasimha swamy temple on the river bank. A must visit place in T narasipura, situated on the Kaveri river bank.

Second, an ancient cave temple.

After spending quality time and a well deserved break in Yoga Narasimha swamy temple, we went across the river to visit the cave temple.

Incontrast to the first temple, this cave temple was nothing but sad atmosphere. But we could not stop ourselves amazing at the plenty of small and big Shiva lingas all around this cave.

It was a pretty big place once you enter inside. The priest or the guy who maintains the place (also lives in the cave) was not friendly, we waited until the actual priest arrived to see the main sanctum.

He was not friendly either. Guess they are not used to outsiders visiting this god forsaken place.

My hubby appeared quite irritated that I dragged him to this unfriendly, dark cave where there was nobody except us. Thanks to 2 local ladies who arrived just before we left the temple.

Finally, we started our bike very late in the evening, as usual we rode our bike in the dark to return home.

It has become our thing – riding a bike in the dark, and we were pretty confident in riding a bike after these couple of experiences. Read about it here and here.

Alternate route Via Kanakapura Road

Though many prefer to take the Mysore highways route, you could also reach T Narasipura from Bangalore via Kanakapura – malavalli route. Now Kankapura road is much developed and sophisticated with lot of good choices for pit stop. And the distance is same as the Mysore highways route.

While you are at it, you could visit Talakadu and Shivanasamudra falls before reaching T Narasipura. Later visit Somanathapura and other places near T Narasipura.

During Kumbakonam Masi Magam festival we have visited 24 temples in 3 days by bike, thanks to my friend who rented out the bike to us. We reached Kumbakonam from Bangalore by train, stayed in Poppy’s SET Hotel for 3 days, roamed all around Kumbakonam mercilessly in motorbike for 3 days.

About Masi Magam and its Importance

The Masimaham is an annual event that occurs in Kumbakonam in the Tamil month of Masi (February–March) in the star of Magam.

Vast crowds of Hindu devotees gather at Kumbakonam to have a dip in the tank a.k.a Mahamaham tank.

All the rivers of India are believed to meet at the tank on this day and a purificatory bath at this tank on this day is considered equal to the combined dips in all the holy rivers of India.

Festival deities from all the temples in Kumbakonam arrive at the tank and at noon, all the deities bathe along with the devotees – it is called “Theerthavari“.

The purificatory bath is believed to remove sins and after the dip, pilgrims offer charitable gifts in the hope of being rewarded in the current life and subsequent lives.

The temple cars of major temples in Kumbakonam come around the city on the festival night. During the Mahamaham of 1992, the number of devotees were estimated to be one million. (Source – Wikipedia).

Our Story -Travelduo From Bangalore

We were able to darshan 24 temples continuously for 3 days because we planned everything beforehand, and our energy level matched to roam the temples back to back, non stop in bike.

Otherwise would have not been possible travelling by car and with the group or with more family members. It was the most memorable trip where we did crazy riding to temples in Kumbakonam Masi Magam Festival in the year 2017.

In the 3 days of roaming, we fell in Love with this beautiful temple town Kumbakonam, so in the same year and the next year we went road trip of 11 days to Kumbakonam. Just for the love of most majestic and historically important temples in Kumbakonam.

In all our Road trip from Bangalore to Nandi Hills, We never miss to visit this ancient, beautiful temple named Boga Nandeshwara Temple with a breathtaking pond.

Many visit Nandhi hills to watch sunset.

Many go on one day trip from Bangalore to Nandi hills for adventurous trip, for trekking with groups.

Not all of them know about this ancient temple which is picture worthy from all the angles. The majestic pond is this temple’s highlight. One must visit this temple to witness the beauty and vast history behind its architecture.

Road trip From Bangalore to Nandi Hills

About Nandi Hills Temple

Bhoga Nandeeshwara Temple is located at the foot of Nandi Hills Bangalore, approximately 15kms away. Not to confuse this temple with Yoga Nandeeshwara temple a.k.a Nandi Temple located on top of the hills. But there is a connection between these two temples which many of us don’t know.

These two temples together depict the different forms of Lord Shiva. From Childhood to adult married form depicted in Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple. Whereas final phase of “renunciation” is depicted in Yoga Nandeeshwara temple at the hilltop.

Since it represents a departure from the married life, there are no festivals celebrated in Yoga Nandeeshwara temple.

Note: This Nandi Hills temple is not the same “Nandi temple” in Mysore.

In Bhoga Nandeeshwara temple you can see childhood form as “Arunachaleswara” shrine located on the south, youth form located on the north. (Both are beautiful majestic Shiva Lingas with individual Nandhi guarding them).

In Between “Arunachaleswarar” shrine and “Bogha Nandeeshwara” shrine is the “Uma Maheswara” shrine where Lord Shiva is married to Goddess Parvati, sitting on their Vehicle Nandhi. You will be amazed looking at the ornamental pillars which are small but breathtakingly beautiful. Scroll down to see the pics below.

Temple Pond – Pushkarni Details

Also there is a Kalynai / Pushkarni (temple pond) adjacent to the temple, a very beautiful pond which attracts hundreds of visitors for its exotic design, artistic appearance and its cultural heritage. It is also called Shringi Theertha, Myth says that it was created by Nandi and it is also the source of South Pinakini (South Pennar) River.

Update (14th July 2019) – Since last year we click pics from the Canon EOS 800 D DSLR camera we bought in 2018 for our long bike trip. Also we carried our personal phones whenever we couldn’t take out the DSLR or no space in luggage. Rajesh carried One Plus A6010, and whereas I carried Samsung galaxy S7. Got to tell you my Samsung pics were no good compared to the clarity of One plus. Decided that when I upgrade my phone, I would definitely go for the One plus only.

Road Trip From Bangalore to Nandi Hills – How To Reach

Nandi Hills Bangalore is the most preferred choice for one day bike trip destination by bikers.

It is such a beautiful sight to watch many bikers parading in small or big groups to Nandi hills.

With approximately 70 kms distance from Bangalore to Nandi hills, you have smooth NH 48 roads for seamless drive for the entire 2 hrs of drive. You might experience a slow traffic until Kempegowda Airport on weekdays, especially on Saturdays. Sundays are the most peaceful days.

The distance from Bangalore airport to Nandi Hills is 47 kms distance, which is the most greenery roads.

There are also bus facilities from Bangalore to Nandi hills, and from Nandi hills to Bogha Nandeeswara temple.

Thanks to “Archaeological survey of India”, this famous Nandi Hills Temple is well maintained all the times.

Riding to Nandi hills temple is always a pleasant experience. Once on the way to Nandi hills temple we spent time around the rose plantation, clicked some pics before we reached there.

If you like to go trekking to far places from Bangalore, you could go either go Coorg or Talakona forest and waterfalls or Yercaud.

10 Things to do around Nandi Hills

After a couple of bike ride to Boga Nandeeshwara temple, we went one step ahead and visited multiple places far apart from this temple in one day.

On 5th November 2016, We went on One day bike trip to the very famous Lepakshi Temple (Anantapur District, Andra Pradesh) after visiting Boga Nandeeshwara temple. I suggest travelling to Lepakshi Temple, which is one of the best one day trips from Bangalore within 150 kms.

That day alone we rode bike for 300 kms on up and down journey. One of the memorable adventurous bike trips ever because we have traveled up and down two different states in one day. Good news is Lepakshi temple is just 76 kms away from the Nandi hills.

On 21st jan 2017, we went on One day bike trip to visit Sri Ranganathar Temple (Rangastala) and Boga Nandeeswarar Temple (Nandi Hills) in Chikkaballapur District followed by Ghati Subramanya Temple in Doddabellapur District. I have found 7 articles from famous bloggers on Trekking in Coorg which are useful for Travelers.

We are just back from 4 days bike trip to Coorg from Bangalore, starting from 1st November to 4th November 2018.

Travelling to any new destinations, we both invest some time to know the places, temple histories, places to see around, good restaurants and good accommodations.

So, I have compiled all the blog articles that I read which talk about Coorg travel, Trekking in Coorg, Homestays, Coffee plantation experiences and much more.

This is an interesting travel article where every bit of trek to Tadiandamol, Coorg is explained. I loved the way the author narrated her story from start to end of the trekking at Coorg with a group of 15 members. She narrated that how she had a difficult time trekking without proper shoes, lack of water and food supply and unforgettable experience when the team saw a snake in the trails. It was quite an article with many pics.

But, no much information on where she camped (if any), transportation and accommodation details. All I learnt from her article is I would need good supportive shoes, food and water supply and team coordination as I might get split up on the way up.

So, overall this article is helpful for travellers interested in Coorg one day trip and trekking in Coorg.

This article caught my interest because the author traveled by bike to Coorg from Bangalore, and shared his both bike ride and trek experience to Mandalapatti. Our extensive Bike ride experiences have taught us many lessons – one of them is “be prepared for any sudden deviation in the plan at any point in time”.

Since 2016, travelling to Coorg from Bangalore has been in our travel bucket list. We were hesitant to ride that long bike for being new rides. But, by 2017, we were super confident after numerous bike trips, therefore decided to ride to Coorg, but with enough pit stops.

That’s the reason it was a well planned 4 days long bike trip to Coorg from Bangalore.

Road Trip To Coorg From Bangalore – 4 days Travel Itinerary

On 1st November 2018, hardly 2 full weeks before our 12 days long bike trip, we went on road trip to Coorg From Bangalore.

Throughout the journey we traveled by our bike, with the help of google maps we enjoyed going to all the places discussed below.

This is how we spent our 4 days of a bike ride to Madikeri, Coorg.

Day 1: Bangalore to Mysuru (150 kms)

Stay – Oyo rooms

Day 2: Mysuru to Madikeri, Coorg (157 Kms)

Sightseeing places: Dubare elephant camp, Tibetian temple (Nisargadama).

Stay at Coorg International Hotel.

Day 3: Sightseeing and Explore Coorg

Day 4: Finally Return Coorg to Bangalore (270 kms)

We enjoyed eating in a small – family run restaurant, during our stay in Madikeri.

In 4 Days Road trip to Coorg From Bangalore – Why Didn’t We Go Trekking

Of our 4 days road trip to Coorg from Bangalore via Mysore, we have spent 2 days in Coorg.

Here is the reason why we did not plan to go trekking in coorg even though I have done all the research.

Some people travel for adventure, some travel to experience the place and culture, some travel for passion and make living, some travel to relax and get away from regular life, some travel for creating memories and experiences.

We traveled so we could ride the motorbike to the destinations and cherish the whole experience.

So our prime aim is to ride a bike and enjoy the experience on different roads riding to different places.

Also, a disadvantage with riding a bike for such long hours is that we cannot do any sports activities or any physical activities which demand more energy (unless we choose to stay in one place for a very long time).

All we do is relax at the end of a bike ride, and explore the city where we stay.

That’s the reason even though I read all the articles and collated all the info, we did not plan to go trekking in Coorg.

Where we went Local Sightseeing in Coorg Madikeri

Mostly we go sightseeing the famous places in our destinations and chill in restaurants, eat the local cuisine and enjoy the vacation.

While we were there in Madikeri, we chose 2 destinations apart from hanging out in cafes and restaurants.

On day 3 of our road trip to Coorg from Bangalore, we went to Raja’s seat and Abbey falls (mini trekking experience).

Sightseeing In Coorg : Raja’s seat

One of the well maintained tourist places to see in Coorg Madikeri is Raja’s seat.

It is a family vacation spot in Madikeri, with minimum entrance fee for adults.

After a hearty complimentary breakfast at Coorg International Hotel, we went to Raja’s seat, about 5 mins ride from our hotel.

We spent great time hanging around the park, clicking pics on the cliff of Raja’s seat.

The view was awesome and we clicked many pics before we left the place to hang out in a nearby small cafe.

Sightseeing In Coorg : Abbey Falls Madikeri

Even Though we didn’t go on a trek in Coorg during our stay, the trip to Abbey falls gave us a mini trekking experience.

After about a 15 mins bike ride from the hotel to Abbey falls checkpost, we walked down the stairs for about 20 mins to reach the falls.

But it was worth the sweat, spent time clicking pics, amazed at the falling river standing behind the barricade.

The crowd was moderate and a security guard was there to stop any trespassers from playing in the river.

Places To see Near Coorg

Dubare Elephant Camp – Elephant Safari and Elephant bathing, wildlife photography, River rafting
Nisargadhama Golden Temple (Namdroling Monastery)
Nagarhole National Park (Wildlife safari at 6am to 8am, so you need to be there by 5.45 am atleast)
Wayanad Hill station
Kabini River (River view and plenty of resorts for stay)
Talakadu (Origin of Talakaveri, Play in the river, Visit famous ancient temples being buried under sand)
Somanathapura – Chennakesava temple (Ancient Hoysala Architecture under Archaeology department)
Mysore (Famous Tourist destination – Mysore Zoo, Palace, Sri Chamundeswari hills, Brindavan garden, Tippu Sultan Fort etc.,)
Srirangapatna – Sri Ranganathar Temple.

In this 4 days road trip to Coorg from Bangalore, we have visited Mysore, Dubare (missed) and Nisargadama golden temple before reaching Coorg.

My Disappointment story in Dubare Elephant camp – How we missed the Elephant bath timings

We have been to Mysore more than a dozen times in the past years, and explored all the places. And we have been to Talakadu, Srirangapatna and Somanathapura on our various one day bike trips from Bangalore.

Also we have been on Wildlife safari to Nagarhole national park when we were on a 3 days road trip from Bangalore to Wayanad. In the same trip, on the way back we have visited Kabini river too.

Basically, we have been to all the places in our travel History. :- ) .

Is it Safe to Travel From Bangalore to Coorg Bike trip?

Now the most important question everyone asks -How safe it is to go on road trip to Coorg from Bangalore?.

Going to a hill station like Coorg arises this common question, especially with the wildlife starting from Nagerhole.

Here are few things to know about road safety in your Bangalore to Coorg Bike trip or car trip:

From Bangalore to Mysore, you would be enjoying 4 ways road with divided roads on Mysore Highways.
If you are taking you Kanakapura road to reach Mysore, then you will have undiveded road but with far less traffic. A peaceful and greenary road compared to Mysore highways.

Bangalore to Coorg Bike trip – Overall Experience

This was a successful 4 days road trip experience to Coorg.

Overall we had a good time –

– visiting Namdroling Monastery Golden Temple (also Cauvery Nisargadama)

– bike riding / roaming around the places near Madikeri (mainly Raja’s seat and Abbey falls),

-enjoying local food and coffee, clicking lots of pics and making memories.

We didn’t buy any Coorg spices nor Coorg coffee because we were limited by luggage space. But would love to buy some on our next road trip to Coorg from Bangalore.

Now you can also plan for a 4 days road trip to Coorg From Bangalore. You could also add many sightseeing places near Coorg from the list above. Also plan for trekking in Coorg.

Or you could spend just a day or two only in Coorg, because there are many local sightseeing places in Coorg Madikeri.

If you are planning road trip from Mysore, you could cover more places beyond Coorg – like Kabini River, Nagarhole National Park, Wayanad etc.,

So overall it was very memorable and pleasant road trip from Coorg to Bangalore.

Melkote From Bangalore (335KM in One Day Bike Trip)

In our One day bike trip to Melkote From Bangalore, we have visited CheluvaNarayanaSwamy temple and Lord Yoga Narasimha Swamy temple on the Melkote hill.

On our way back we have visited the very famous Srirangapatna temple, near Mysore.

We have traveled a total of 335 kms just in one day trip from Bangalore and here is our travel story.

How to Reach Melkote From Bangalore by Road – 2 Routes

On an early morning on 11th Feb 2017, we started our bike journey to Melkote from Bangalore, coincidentally it was our 11th one day bike trip from Bangalore :).

Never we have ever been to Melkote on our previous bike trips to Mysore or Srirangapatna.

You know we always make it a point to visit a famous temple / historic place during all our bike trips.

Knowing that Melkote is famous for a historically important Lord Vishnu temple called Cheluvanarayana Swamy temple and the other Yoga Narasimha Swamy on the hill, we have decided to ride exclusively to Melkote.

This was our first exclusive trip to Melkote from Bangalore.

There are 2 routes to reach Melkote from Bangalore. One is Kunigal Mangalore Highway and the other Mysore Highways.

We took Kunigal highways to reach Melkote (I explained the reason in next section). If you are taking Mysore NH, the distance is almost the same as above, you will be taking a diversion from Mandya to reach Melkote.

The following is the route we took to reach Melkote by Bike.

Bangalore-Nelamangala-(Kunigal Mangalore highway)-Bellur cross- Nagamangala-Melukote (temple visit) -return via Srirangapatna (temple visit) mysore highway road

Melkote Distance From Bangalore

Melkote distance from Bangalore is 167 kms (from my home) via Kunigal route and 140 kms from my home via Mysore NH.

The reason I mentioned “My home” as a starting point is because the distance might vary a little based on the location you start in Bangalore.

Both the routes now have plenty of options for restaurants, cafes and fast food joints.

Since we never experienced Kunigal route ( with 167 kms) we decided to take that route.

Note: Both the routes have plenty of pitstop options for the travellers.

In Kunigal route, we had breakfast at tiffanys in Nelamangala. And we stopped at Hotel Mayura at Bellur cross for lunch.

2 Must See Temples of Melkote

Melkote is famous for two temples namely Cheluvanarayana temple and Yoga Narasimha temple on the hills.

We spent some time in the CheluvaNarayana Temple pushkarini until the temple opened for evening darshan. As soon as we had darshan, we headed to the Melkote hill temple.

We had to wait a long time in the queue to darshan Lord Yoganarasimha and headed as fast as we could to Srirangapatna temple.

Again standing in queue for quite sometime in Srirangapatna temple, we had darshan only at 7.15pm.

Well, we knew for sure made mistake of coming all the way to Srirangapatna instead of returning to Bangalore from Melkote itself.

We then started our bike around 7.30 pm, with a prepared mind for a thrilling bike ride in the NH.

Riding in dark is not new to us, once we rode about 500kms in Hassan trip, the highlight was riding in pitch dark among tall trees.

Sightseeing Places Around Melkote

From our experience, know that it’s better to stick to just sightseeing in Melkote on your trip.

Ancient Sri Brahmeswara temple, Kikkeri – Famous Hoysala architecture temple. Located 40 kms from Melkote.
PanchaLingeshwara temple – Hoysala architecture temple located near Kikkeri
Shravanabelagola – Bhagawan Bahubali Statue, A famous sightseeing day trip destination in Karnataka, located 35 kms from Melkote.
Sri ChennaKesava Temple – Hoysala architecture temple located 47 kms from Melkote and located near to Shravanabelagola. You could plan to visit these two temples in one go before reaching Melkote.
Nuggehalli Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Temple – located a short distance from Bellur cross, is yet another breathtaking architecture of Hoysala. Located about 30km away from Bhagawan Bahubali Statue and 55km from Melkote, it is a must visit temple in Karnataka.
Adichunchanagiri Hills – Sri Kalabhairaveshwara Swamy Temple, located close to the Bellur cross. At 54 kms from Melkote – a serene temple with a breathtaking view atop the hill should be in your travel bucket list.
SriRangapatna – Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, located 38 kms from Melkote is yet another historically famous temple of Lord Vishnu near the Kaveri river. This temple location is close to both Mysore and Melkote.

We have fallen in love with the beauty of this Nuggehalli temple. Consider this place to add to your bucket list on your trip to Melkote from Bangalore.

If you are not sure of trip plan, here is a sample road trip plan to help you started with.

Start From Bangalore -Darshan Melkote temple – on return journey from Melkote – visit in order – Shravanabelagola -Nuggehalli – Adichunchanagiri hills.

You could even plan the other way around, like you can visit all famous places first, later in the evening visit Melkote before reaching home.

Moreover it gets too dark and scary in Adichuchanagiri hills temple (from our Hassan bike trip experience).

Did We Return Home Safe?

Following what seemed to be a never ending ride among the super crazy vehicles in the National Highways, we reached home safe sometime past midnight.

Yet another memorable one day bike trip to cherish, to Melkote from Bangalore, of total un-freaking-believable 335 kms in Pulsar bike.

Anything around 200 to 250 kms, we are good to go by motorbike in a day.

But on that day, we pushed past our comfort zone and rode about 335 km in just one day.

Looking back we are now so proud of the risks we took in our early days of bike trip. So later we were able to go on an 11 days long bike trip.

After almost 4 long years of bike ride to places, now we are settled to travel by car.

So these bike rides definitely hold a special place in our life. All credit goes to Rajesh, who was never afraid to set new milestones.
